Thanks for the v lucid explanations. I’m new to Windows Defender. Have just set up a commission to run a quick scan daily, but hope MS addresses this problem with an earnest fix. Have also set myself a reminder in Outlook to run a full scan once in a while.
Could you clarify one practical point for me? Scans only run when the PC is “idle”: does that mean switched on with no apps open, or can you have apps open but just not be using the keyboard or mouse (or downloading thing)? How long does it take for the
PC to decide it’s in an “idle state” – 10 seconds, 10 minutes or longer?
It’s a pain if scans are cancelled and results lost if they’re interrupted – would be much better if they could just pause and resume. Don’t mind stay the two minutes or so stay while a quick scan runs, but a two-hour delay while a full scan runs would
be a real hassle.
